This class took place in Rocky Mount, NC at Showers of Blessing Christian Academy. The goal of this workshop was to give the students an idea of the basics of computational science. Some of the topics covered include: computer modeling using NetLogo, 3D modeling using Google Sketchup, and engineering taught by Ron Broadnax. The workshops were held for four days from June 9th-12th. The majority of the students in attendance were in the 3rd-5th grade.
Shodor provides the computer enrichment component of the W.D. Hill Community Center summer camp. The students from W.D. Hill are taught different concepts, including physics, statistics, geometry, forensic science and physical science.
New Life Christian Academy is a school in Durham that provides a complete physical education program through hands-on learning and engaging activities that make learning fun. Shodor teaches two computational science classes with subject such as NetLogo, math, graphing, HTML, and graphics. The students levels range from Pre-K to 5th grade. In each class there are ten students. The two classes are divided into 2nd grade and under and 3rd through 5th.
The CSI camp, held in Jackson County, was a summer camp given to high school students to teach forensic science, research skills, biology and chemistry. The students learned how to use computer technology to create interactive tools, simulations and science models. Shodor staff lead three days of the workshop, teaching modeling and forensics.
The Emily K center is an after school program for children in elementary school. Shodor taught a computational science class there. The material covered in this class consisted of primarily NetLogo and Web design. The kids in the class were in the 3rd-5th grade. The class started in January and ended in May. They met once a week on Fridays from 4-5:30.
